Hi,
New hear but have read LOADS on various thread and have found it very informative place to be.
So I hope yous may be able to help me PRIOR to me screwing up the TT
Background:
Bought TT One V2 in the US, which had installed USA & Canada maps, to be used while on Holiday.
I have a 2 gig SD Card (Sandisk Ultra II)
I have updated to the new TT Home and all seems OK.
Task:
I now want to purchase & install GB maps.
Question:
What is my best way to go about this?
Do I insert the blank SD card (TT on or off?) and then use TT Home to download the map I want.
OR
Do I Insert the blank card, copy over everything from the TT and then add the other map......eh or what?????
Help please. Step by step would be nice for a simpleton such as myself?
Thanks in advance.

FIRST STEP ABOVE ALL OTHERS Get a backup of your TT - Use Windows Explorer set to show ALL files and extensions and copy the entire contents to somewhere on your PC. - Note: TT Home offers the facility to do backups, BUT almost everybody on this site will advise you against that and to use Windows Explorer.
Insert the card with the TT off (NEVER insert or extract whilst still powered and running).
Copy the contents to your new blank card.
Use TT Home to buy, download and install the new map. If the install process tells you there isn't enough space, you could delete the USA and Canada map folder to make space PROVIDING you've first done a backup like I mention above. _________________ Dennis

Hi and thanks for the VERY quick reply.
Having spent a bit of time reading threads on here I have both did a backup using home AND did a backup using Windows Explorer.
So I insert card (with TT off).
Turn it on.
Then using Windows Explorer, copy all of the files from the TT onto the card.
Download the UK map and I presume it automatically installs it onto the card.
Fingers crossed for me !!

I'm not 100% familiar with TT ONE, but all TTs are very similar. But I don't know whether your map is inside the TT or on the card. Either way, copying contents to card will cover both eventualities!
You may find you have to ask it or agree to it installing the map, but apart from that, it really should go very much hands free. _________________ Dennis

Thanks Dennis.
Copies contents of TT onto Card.
Booted up TT with card in, all seems fine.
Purchased GB map and is downloading as I type.
Seems OK so far. (Thanks to the info gained here that is!)
Will update once its all installed.

OK, Update, after finally downloading.
All installed OK and see it on the card.
BUT
It is not asking what map I want to use and thus saying location is unknown, as its working on the US map....
Any advice?
Thanks...

Try going into Change Preferences | Manage Maps | Switch Maps and see what Maps it offers you.
It should show the new Map and when selected ask you for the Activation Code. This you need to get from ttcode.com _________________ Richard

Thanks Dennis & Oldboy.
Both correct, but did not need activation code, just selected map and it worked.
It even worked inside the house !!!!!
Thanks again, especially to Dennis, who has helped me though this upgrade.
much appreciated.
Next will be my POIs another day !

Yippee And welcome to the happy world of Tom Tom Satnav - it may give you grief from time to time, but overall, it's good to be here.
For POIs, you'll want the PocketGPSWorld speed cameras (you need to be subscribed, £19 a year). For any other POIs, take note that you are allowed a maximum of 100. Go over that limit and you start "losing" them - not actually lost, but TT device can't handle them, so it drops the extras, choosing what to drop by some fiendishly random method that nobody understands!
In my experience, buying maps via TT Home, whilst logged in as the Device owner, I didn't need to get an activation code. _________________ Dennis

PS
Now do another backup (Win Explorer) so that you've got a backup of your installed GB Map. _________________ Dennis
