The Quest unit with all its faults still satisfies the needs of a huge market. I can't think of another GPS that gives me basic car navigation and the ability to be used in the outdoors during Scottish summer conditions - rain hail & snow. What other unit is so rugged and yet "does it all".
To me, an outdoor enthusiast shouldn't be allowed off their couch unless a competent map-reader. So all I ever needed from my GPS was an accurate map reference. The Quest gives me this, and a lot more.

Garmin should develop models of this fundamental design:-
Waterproof - within reason
Basic Car Navigation - Already in Quest 1 and 2
Loadable with maps of mountains & oceans.
Replaceable batteries - Come on Garmin, get real!! Who needs a fixed battery when 30 miles from the nearest road & 100 from the nearest mains socket.
What about some Card Memory slots (with waterproof seal).

Please don't kill an excellent basic design. Enhance it and promote it. The market is much much bigger than Garmin realize.

Forgot to ask!

In the likely event that Garmin do abandon the Quest - its not even on their web-site! - can anyone recommend a suitable replacement.
Remember:-
Waterproof
Basic Car Navigation - + Voice
Downloadable with Ocean & Mountain maps.
Portable.
Manual weighing less than a rucksack!

As the Quest was a motorcycle GPS, I'd suggest you look at the Zumo range which replaced it Smile
