|
|
A fault has been found in a Nokia battery that is used in a lot of GPS receivers. The affected batteries have the product number BL-5C which is printed on the battery.
Nokia are offering a free replacement for any affected batteries via this page: http://www.nokia.com/batteryreplacement/en/
Quote: |
This is a product advisory for the Nokia-branded BL-5C battery manufactured by Matsushita Battery Industrial Co. Ltd. of Japan between December 2005 and November 2006. This product advisory does not apply to any other Nokia battery.
Nokia has identified that in very rare cases the affected batteries could potentially experience over heating initiated by a short circuit while charging, causing the battery to dislodge. Nokia is working closely with relevant local authorities to investigate this situation.
Nokia has several suppliers for BL-5C batteries that have collectively produced more than 300 million BL-5C batteries. This advisory applies only to the 46 million batteries manufactured by Matsushita between December 2005 and November 2006. There have been approximately 100 incidents of over heating reported globally. No serious injuries or property damage have been reported.
Consumers with a BL-5C battery subject to this advisory should note that all of the approximately 100 incidents have occurred while charging the battery. According to Nokia's knowledge this issue does not affect any other use of the mobile device. Concerned consumers may want to monitor a mobile device while charging that contains a BL-5C battery subject to this product advisory.
While the occurrence in the BL-5C batteries produced by Matsushita in the time-period specified is very rare, for consumers wishing to do so, Nokia and Matsushita offer to replace any BL-5C battery subject to this product advisory. |

Above quoted text..
"Used in a lot of GPS receivers" concerns me..
Do we know WHICH GPS receivers this is used in??
Personally I run TomTomOne Original, and TomTomOne V2.
Does anyone know if either of these carry the BL5c battery??

Be wary of the website results. Typed in the batttery number first time and it failed. Checked with my company whether they wanted to pursue this or did they want me to. When they came back and said crack on with it yourself, I re-typed the number in and it now said it was okay... Spooky. _________________ iPhone5, TomTom, Google maps, Navfree, Viewranger and Apple Maps (ekk) |

Just looked at my GlobalSat BT-338.
It uses a Li-lon Battery Pack Part No. LIN302 3.7V Date Code MX0604M
so not that one.
My O2 XDA Orbit Uses a Sanyo ARTE160 3.7V no date code. _________________ Graham.

Have yet to receive replacement battery as site promised.
It's been over a month. How long does it take to send out replacements?
Anyone received a replacement yet? |

Kiwi69.
This may not be fully relative to this SatNav forum, but I too have been waiting over a month. Chased Nokia 08450 455555, option 2, option 2 three or four times, but STILL no battery. They claim their web site "was having difficulties". They also advised they would call back TWICE so far, and no call back.
Comforting to know I'm not the only one that is STILL waiting.. _________________ HTC OneX (IceCreamSandwich), HTC DesireHD (Gingerbread) Co-Pilot Premium, GoogleMaps+CamerAlert352
