|
|
There are various ways to avoid being caught out by a speed camera. Tactics range from the 100% legal (such as the PocketGPSWorld.com database), the grey areas (such as switching lanes between SPECS cameras), the 100% illegal (such as burning cameras down) and the rather obvious (just don't speed!). One other technique that most people have been wary of due to lack of actual evidence is the 'Anti-Flash' Spray.
These 'Anti-Flash' sprays claim to make car number plates 'invisible' to speed cameras - with no real evidence to promote them... Well, Dorset Trading Standards and Safety Camera Partnership did some tests involving the £23 'Anti-Flash' spray and a police car driving through a speed camera. Needless to say, the spray did not work and the company trading in the spray were fined £1,300!
For £4 less they could have subscribed to the PocketGPSWorld.com camera for a year and made sure they were not over the speed limit as they approached the camera! |

Looks like we have to be vigilant to See if a product similar to the last one don't return, but hoping they have learned their lesson £1,300 is still not a lot of money I would be interested to know how many they sold though.

Nice to see they were prosecuted for selling a bogus product! I've seen tests of these sprays before and they reckoned that they didn't work, but there was always the element of doubt that "it's all a conspiracy" etc. This settles the argument.
As for the fine, it's paltry compared to the profit they would have made selling a can of spray on varnish for 23 quid, but it's a step in the right direction.... _________________ Gone fishing! |

I love the way they say "You will not be able to create the same conditions using personal camera, also the flash technology used will not be comparable."
Ahh OK. So they have a super secret formula which only works with Gatsos and not with a normal camera. Yeah, right. _________________ Gone fishing! |

They had these at the NEC bike show. I took a picture with my camera and it's flash. Guess what - I could see the numbers.
They got all upset and sort-of threatened me (quite hard to do when my friend is 7' 47" and plays rugby for England!!)
I'm glad trading standards are "doing" these. But what about the poor numpties who buy their stock. Not only will they get done, but if the police find out what they have, they can also be done for "perverting the course of justice" - a criminal offense. |

This was in the original article
"Johnny Stephens, the Partnership's fixed penalties chief, said he had been happy to help the trading standards officers, and warned that trying to cheat speed cameras meant driving at dangerous speeds."
Eh? |

caught an episode of road wars on sky the other week and a patrol car was following a golf through the city centre when the officer in the passenger seat looked at the camera screen in the dash and couldn' read the plate on the golf in front but looking through the windscreen you could they pulled the guy over and i think he got done and had to remove the plates, it didn't say what he had used on the plates but it looked effective |

Yup and Conspiracy to pervert the course of justice? IIRC DVLA issued a warning that drivers found using this spray would be prosecuted and could be fined £1000. _________________ Darren Griffin |
