I have done a search for the above titled only be given about 18660 pages to scroll through Shocked
Is there a recommended speed/distance to set up on the Tomtom? I have seen the chart in seconds 10,15,20,25.30 but what is the best for the speed for that particular road. eg: you are driving at 30mph on a 30 mph road how long do you need in yards to alert for that camera & all the other speeds in yards : Confused

Hi, use that chart to set the yards you want depending on how long a warning you want.

At 30mph, if you want a 20 second warning set it to 294 yards
At 30mph, if you want a 30 second warning set it to 441 yards

At 70mph, if you want a 20 second warning set it to 684 yards
At 70mph, if you want a 30 second warning set it to 1026 yards

The chart is here

Laughing Laughing You forgot to tick the "Search for all terms". That will only return 3 items. Select the last one & that will give you the table!

Thanx tanda for the quick reply.
I understand the chart but not sure as to what yardage I should set as the norm? I don`t want to set up to early but don`t want to be caught to late. I do not drive over the recommended speeds if I can help it. So I could be driving just above 40mph in a 40 zone but still don`t no how many yards I would need to alert me of a camera?
Regards

I've got my Gatso and Red Lights set at 200 yards, which might not suit you, it's all about personal choice so you'll be best of choosing a number of yards and going out in your car to see if it's the right choice, if it's not then you adjust it.

The chart is intended to list the distance in yards you need to select for the camera speed rating you are setting up, if you want a warning 20 seconds prior to the camera choose the 20 second column for the yards value, the speed rating assumes you are traveling at (or close) to the speed limit.
If you want a larger warning margin use the values from the 30 second warning column.

One other easy to remember option is to use the times ten rule, if the speed rating for the camera is 20 MPH make the yards distance 200, if the speed is 50 MPH then the distance is 500 Yards, 70 MPH equates to 700 Yards using this method - this easy to use method will give you a warning around 21 seconds prior to each camera category assuming you are travelling at the legal speed limit - Mike

Personally, I use a 20 second warning, If you are just over the speed limit, is 20 seconds enough time for you to slow down? if you regularly exceed the limit, say 100mph in a 50mph limit, then you may need a 30 second warning or more. Set them all to 20 seconds, and see how you get on.

There's no right or wrong....It's up to you!

Assuming you drive at about the speed limit, just decide how many seconds warning you want.
Many people are happy with a 20 second warning, so if you want 20 seconds warning at every speed too, just use the 20 seconds column.

(It's actually near enough 200yds at 20mph, 300yds at 30mph, 400yds at 40mph etc. so I just use those rather than remember the details)
Double the above figures for mobiles.

Do that and if you aren't happy after a few days, just make them smaller or bigger to suit yourself.

Thanx all for the quick advice. Smile
Now I have something to go on rather than trial & error for a few weeks.
I will set up as suggested.
Again many thanx
Regards

i have just set all my spoken warnings up at 20 secs. first time i tried it out i got 2 false alarms on a 20 mile random route. i knew where the cameras were, but if i had been somewhere unfamiliar i would have been very confused - driving along a 30mph road and being warned of a 60mph camera ahead! is this just bad luck, or normal? i think i will be adjusting down to 15 secs anyway.

Sounds like you haven't got "Warn only when on route" ticked. I do.

Again it is a personal preference. There is no "perfect" set-up that gives exactly what everyone wants.

Those are probably alerts going off on nearby roads.

You can't "set it to seconds". The chart referred to just gives approximate yards values to use that give a certain number of seconds warning when travelling at each speed.
