Hi there

I'm new to this GPS game but have been using Mapsource over the past month. I have to say I'm a little surprised at how slow, buggy and featureless it is.

Are there or have there ever been any initiatives to enhance add to or otherwise complement the features provided by Mapsource?

It is usual for software communities to mod software they feel is lacking or produce alternatives.

Has anything like this happened for Mapsource?

Thanks!

Welcome Thumbs Up

Which Mapsource product are you using (and what for?)

Assuming it's one of the road maps...

As far as I know it is designed to complement some GARMIN navigation devices, allowing you to download some or all of the mapping to a compat. device. Also some units allow you to do route planning on the PC using Mapsource products and then transfer the routes to a PND.

It's not designed to be an accurate reflection of the actual topography (there are other maps in the range for that ).

ah!

perhaps I've got my terminology wrong, I'm referring to the actual mapping manipulation software itself. I find it could have a lot more functionality built in and could be an awful lot better thought out.

For example, to be able to hold down the spacebar to pan instead of having to select another tool would be a major time saver.

As was asked before, what version of MapSource are you using?
Mine is 6.12.4.

There are four directional arrows on the keyboard - they pan in all four directions whatevever Mapsource tool is used.
The + or - button change the scale.

I'm using 6.12.4

I take it you don't agree that it could use some work then?

I have been using it for five years, and the upgrades have been frequent and worth having.

The updates to work with tracks and go directly to Google Earth were a bonus.

What do you feel is missing? :D

There have been a few bad updates in the last 12 months than meant it was 'SLOOOWWWW' but that seem to be corrected.

The .gdb file with 14000 speed cameras is 'SLOOOWWWW' Sad

Sorry - It was me getting confused.

strumble has picked up on this ut I would add that I don't have any problems with the application itself. Keep it updated!
