I am looking to purchase the Garmin Nuvi 610T - am I right in thinking that I can add the PocketGPSWorld.com speed camera database (all camera types) as a third party add-on?
Sorry if the answer to this question has been explained elsewhere on this site - however I want to make sure before I part with £240.
Thanks :D |

Welcome
Yep - you can download the camera database (once your subscription has been accepted (hint - PayPal linked to card is by far the quickest way).
You should disable the trial CYCLOPS database that will be installed on your 610 when you get it. Or you can have a go a using it - the fees for updates from GARMIN are slightly more than here (£24 vs £19 per year). You can even subscribe for a month £2 and only do this as and when you feel the need. the PGPSW databse is updated at least monthly and quite often twice a month.
Most users believe the PGPSW database to be 'better' than CYCLOPS (ie. more accurate ) You also get the opportunity to get free life membership if you are the first to report a new fixed camera. _________________ Phil |

Thanks for that - I really appreciate your help.
As well as fixed Gatso cameras, will I also be warned of mobile, Truvelo, SPECS etc...?
Thanks again :D |

Is the Nuvi 610T a current model?
I see a few firms selling it but can't find on the GARMIN website.
Also the description talks of "Lifetime subscription to UK Traffic Master" and "Traffic alert compatible with TMC traffic receiver " and "Traffic alerts with TMC traffic receiver, optional". But there is no mention of the TMC receiver, I presume these all refer to external connections.
I have a Road Angel which is great for OS maps but I don't like the road navigation function and found my old Garmin StreetPilot III much better to use so wondering about getting a later model Garmin for a couple of long journeys that I have to do. I don't think it is spending much on updating the StreetPilot III maps.

Yes the garmin 610T is a current model - I bought mine from Comet - GBP 239.00.
The TMC receiver is an antenna connected to the mains lead - so far it has worked okay - however the coverage for my part of the country (west wales) is practically non existent.
So far I have found the 610T to be superb - great, easy navigation, excellent bluettoth handsfree and so far - very accurate speed camera alerts.
Would not hesitate in recommending this unit! |

Thanks, TMC will be even less use here probably! But will be OK away from the Highlands hopefully.

the 'T' is just to state that it comes with the traffic module - the actual unit is a normal nuvi 610
