|
|
According to the Pocket GPS POI file there are 249 Little Chefs across the country and according to the Little Chef website http://www.littlechef.co.uk/findalittlechef.php there are now only 193 sites after a large clear-out last year.
I have "cleaned up" Kent & Sussex as this is local to me and respectively ask if others can "clean up" others that are local to them.
After all when you are driving in a strange place it can make life a lot easier if the POI's are accurate.
Regards

Well done. The original data was compiled in 2005 and updated early 2006.
It is a never ending job, with the locations changing hands quite often, or closing down all together.
There aren't many Little Chefs in my area, but they are all correct. ;) _________________ Richard

Little chef must have seen my request as they have compiled their POI file and made it available at Little Chef now if only McDonalds could do it with their Drive-Thru's.

Where Google Earth would show it, the locations are shown as the Car Park Entrance. _________________ Richard

Hi PaulWH,

Well, kudos to both Little Chef for producing a POI of their sites and also to PaulWH for spotting the POI.
In fact the POI is dated 2nd April 2007, so it should be right up-to-date. Has anybody tried it?
I have to say that the icon is quite good too!
One suggestion is that Little Chef should include a telephone number of each site.

Yes, well done to Little Chef for producing their own POI file. Perhaps it might be worth having a sticky listing other companies that do the same thing.
Here's another one for the list - Masterpark car parking in London.

Are all these files included in the POI database? I suspect not, because this would no doubt be considered a breach of copyright by the original publishers of the data.
In this case, would it be possible to put a list of links to the relevant web pages on the Download POI page? |

It's free advertising I'm sure they couldn't give a monkeys how many websites offer these files for download, probably the more the merrier. |

You'd think so, wouldn't you...
But when someone tried to sort out a file for "Good Pub Guide" pubs, the publishers weren't keen at all. |

They were probably getting grief from the pubs that weren't in the Good pub guide |

Yes, but if you have a POI list of all the pubs in the Good Pub Guide, you don't need to buy a copy of the book. The book is independent of the pub listed within it.
On the other hand, if you have a POI list of, say, all the Wetherspoons in the country, then you are more likely to go and visit one of there establishments.
However, some companies are more wary than others about where their data is published (will it be kept up to date, for instance, if they don't have control over it?), so permission may not be granted. |
