|

It's just one thing after another, isn't it? :x
I finally got around to downloading the v675 Europe map that Tomtom very graciously allowed me to have for free after I bought my brand-new out-of-date One (). The new Teleatlas map is 944Mb, as opposed to the 908Mb of the old Navteq one. Thing is, due to the number of POIs that I've got on my One (the full set of speed-zoned cameras along with quite a few others) I've only got just over 19Mb of space left with the old maps installed - clearly short of the 36Mb extra that I require to update the maps!
I've got a spare 1Gb SD card lying about, but it seems that I can't just stick that into the SD slot and move all my POIs onto that, freeing up space in the internal memory for the new maps, as the damned thing won't read from both SD and internal memory simultaneously. So it's looking like I now need to spend even more money on a 2Gb SD card that's got enough room on it for the new maps and all the POIs that I want to keep on the unit. again! |

Have you deleted all the voices you will never use? That will free up some space. |

Yes, they were the first things to go after I did the "fresh out of the box" backup ... |

Nevertheless, if TT are ensuring that their new map will fit into the One, then they are deliberately restricting its size by excluding data. Comes a time perhaps when the extra road details becomes large enough to exclude anything else. Not a good move by TT to sell a brand new product with very restricted capability.
Having said which, I feel fairly sure that when I downloaded the new map it showed as 944Mb, but actually installed as about 920Mb? _________________ Dennis

It does appear to be a poor decision not to allow the use of both internal and SD slot memory at the same time but a 2Gb card is less than £20, not a huge expense? _________________ Darren Griffin |

The reason that I like the TomTom ONE NE Europe (Navteq) map, even though it's slightly dated is because it's a Navteq map it has the Channel Islands.
I presume that the later European (Tele Atlas) map does not have the Channel Islands. Am I correct?
If the above is correct, could you have a 2GB card with both the original Navteq map and the new Tele Atlas map so that you have the most up-to-date maps for say mainland UK, but could still navigate around any of the Channel Islands by using the Navteq map? Or does the loading of a new updated map void the use of the older map?

Well, no, it's not huge - but that's not the point. I paid £180 for the unit, and now I'm having to make a further purchase just so that I can use an advertised feature of the product in the way in which I want to use it. It's like buying a car, and then finding that you have to pay extra to retrofit it with a petrol tank of a sufficient size to drive any distance. :x
This is the third Tomtom product that I've bought, and it will be the last. I used to think they were really good - now I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. |

Hi, I know where you are coming from. I have just bought the tomtom one new edition europe and cannot use it at all. This was caused by me just doing a backup on the tom tom home program, since then I had no maps, couldn't restore it as it didn't take the backup correctly. Now i'm left with a tom tom that is worse than useless and £180 out of pocket. No one seems to want to help when you have a problem they only want to pass the book. I won't be recommending tom tom as I have done in the past. |

gill, didn't we recommend you take/send it back to where you bought it from?
You have a contract with them to supply you with something that is fit for purpose.
If it isn't, because of something the manufacturrers told you to do, then they must sort it out for you, either by replacement or refund. |

Well I certainly hope so, but I'm beginning to have doubts about its speed!! _________________ Dennis
