|
|
I remember when installing Navigator 6 to a T-Mobile Vario II (HTC TYTN), that officially this combination was not supported or mentioned in TomTom packaging (in fact when I had a query on install, having incorrectly put TT files in a folder on MSD card, they refused point blank to even talk to me).
Just recently, I have had a couple of silly route suggestions, like trying to get on M11/M25 from Epping kept taking me to a farmyard and even driving away kept routing me back on re-calculation!
Are there ever any upgrades to the routing? Is it contained within the maps? I have tried through the TomTom Home route and it says no upgrade, but then it probably would as Hermes/TyTN/Vario II not supported.
TT site shows a January 2007 update for: HTC P3300 / O2 XDA Orbit / T-Mobile MDA Compact III / Orange SPV M650
HTC P3600 / Orange SPV M700 / SFR s300+
Would this be of use for the Vario, or is this software for updating the application rather than affecting the routing anyway? |

The routing is not a function of the map. However, if the maps do contain errors about the contiguity of roads, errors in marking intersections of roads etc then the routing algorithms in the application would make 'errors' . I have an example of one in Warrington. On TTNav V660 maps where a road over the ship canal is thought to connect to the road 40ft under the bridge running parallel to the canal. It's been a problem for a long time and I have reported it at least twice.
It's fine on my nuvi! (Different map supplier).
You may have a similar issue. _________________ Phil |

I have found the TomTom Navigator 6.03 Jan 07 update did work with my Vario, but are the maps themselves ever updated? My pda shows GB_plusmajor v652.1204 which is the same as when I purchased last year. |

You (usually) have to purchase the updated maps.
I had TT 5.21 (forget which maps I had - but at least 18months old) and at the beginning of the year took the update to V660 maps and 'free' upgrade to TT V6.
Running 6.03 on my AXIM X51v (not in supported list - but it works). _________________ Phil |

the problem you are seeing sounds like a map error as have seen the epping one a few times.
as for buyig the map you never actially own the map bur license to use it. the map prices from tomtom are some of the best in the industy. you could if you feel like it try a different supplier as there are many. companies supplying navigation applications for pocket pc's ie garmin, iGO, alk the list goes on _________________ currently using aponia truck navigation on windows phone. Good bye IOS don't let the door hit you on the way out .
Oh the joys of being a courier.

Following on from alix776
TomTom don't own the maps either - they just have a licence to supply them as part of their product. _________________ Phil |

If only it were that simple! The map licence fee forms the greater part of the product costs. You wouldn't expect a free copy of an AtoZ when the data was updated so why should electronic map data be any different?
When you notify the map makers of a change all that is doing is letting them know that they need to re-survey a road, that's quite a lot of work! _________________ Darren Griffin |
