I don't know if these modifications are going to eventually apply to OEM iGO software. The iGO site says that the update does not "currently" support OEM versions:

If Miomap is eventually updated it will be good news - the tunnel mode, aping Sony's "intelligent" routing, is very interesting. The improved telephone functions and address search features are also promising.

It will be good to know whether or not the new iGO software does provide TMC access in the UK - the iGO site suggests that it will but seems to confuse UK TMC with the free services offered elsewhere in Europe.

Still, with these sorts of improvements to the iGO software it seems that in future the case for dedicated units - as opposed to pda GPS systems - is less clear cut.

I notice that the update does apply to the US non Miomap C310 - as opposed to the US Miomap C310x. Both units look identical - the same as the C510 - and presumably the hardware is pretty much the same and probably identical.

I wonder if users of Mitac units which use Miomap have drawn the short end of the straw? Given recent update problems and issues with borked TMC (necessitating the removal of the Miomap update from the Mitac site) I think it's a fair question.

Fwiw, just out of curiosity, I tried to use the update application with my C710. I felt brave enough to install from scratch if the update wrecked my installation. Far from damaging the current install it simply refused to continue.

Some general info and a lot of screenshots of the new IGO My Way 2006 Plus can be found on http://mio.digiwalker.googlepages.com/igo2006plus

A really interesting website.

So many tweaks, hacks and other uses for the C510/C710 are unavailable to English only speaking users.

I'm tempted to unlock my C710 and buy the iGO software. I doubt though that the iGO software supports UK TMC without an extra subscription.
