Hi there, I have BT-Q818, and I have written a program from my mobile phone which will get my location and send it to my web server. What I want to do is plot my location on google maps. What I get from my GPS is my lat as "5255.8449" and lng as "00129.4489". I have searched literally all day for a way to convert these into something useable by google maps. If I type these values into the search bar as "52 55.8449, -001 29.4489" then I get a marker exactly where I am. By looking at the url, I know that it has converted that into the values "52.930889" and "-1.490815". All of the explanations I have found and implemented have come out wrong. The results match those stated in the explanations examples, but comparing that to where google maps shows the marker, and where a converter I found on terraserver point to, they examples are off by miles. I was wondering if someone could please give me a correct explanation of how I can convert the values into something usable.
Thanks |

You get your latitude as 2 digits for degrees, then decimal minutes. Longitude is 3 digits for degrees. Number is + if North/East, - if South/West.
Easiest is to give Google Maps a number for each of lat and long in degrees to 6 decimal places. All you have to do is divide the decimal minutes by 60 to get decimal degrees.
As an example:
GPS LAT: 5255.8449 is 52 degrees and 55.8449/60 i.e. 52 + 0.930750 = 52.930750
GPS LONG: -00129.4489 is -(1 degrees and 29.4489/60) i.e. -(1 + 0.490815) = -1.490815
Coordinates will be +52.930750, -1.490815 |
