|
|
I was surprised to see such option when I wanted to activate the warning of POI's ...
It is now asking if he needs to warm all POI's or those on the itinerary only ?!?
Is that new ?
That means that without selecting this option, it will alert the POI even if not on the itinerary, if that POI is in the defined perimeter ?
Many thanks for clarifying ... ! |

Alert "POI on intinerary only" - I have never seen that setting. Which menu is it on?
Are you sure you don't mean the "Warn only when on route" setting in Change Preferences/Manage POIs/Warn when near POI.
That option has always been there. With it set "On" the unit ignores any POIs on nearby roads, but not on your route. However, it also gives NO warnings at all if you drive around with no route planned. |

yep ... I was just trying to translate from my French device to English ...
I found this option when in preferences, wanted to alert POI's.
I selected the category, the sound I wanted, then the distance.
then it asked if he needed to warm when POI was on the route only.
Is there any way we can warn poi's when no route is planned ?
I guess no, since the unit doesn't know if you'll turn right or left before the POI or not ...
So If I understand well, the only 2 options are :
With that setting set to "on" :
Will only warm POI's if they are on the route. Will not warm anything if no route is planned.
With that option set to "off" :
Will alert any POI whithin the distance, assuming a route is planned or not ... so meaning it could alert a POI that you'll never see because you turned right or left before.
Is it correct ? |

also maybe a tricky question about that "Warn on route" option.
what is the trigger behind this ?
I mean what is the parameter that makes it "being on road" ?
Is that an area of x meters extended to right and left of the road that checks if a Speedcam is located in this area ?
I subscribed to a web site providing speedcams, and thay say their database is so "detailed", that they do not recommend to select the "Warn on route" option, because they say the precision of their database is +- 20 meters and therefore if you have a road that is let say 30 meters large, you could miss a speedcam alert because a speedcam located on the other side of the road could "flash" you without you were alerted about that speedcam ...
They also say if this "Wanr on route" option is not selected, then the device will warn for every POI in your direction in an angle of 90 degrees right and left.
Is all of this correct ? |

More likely because their database is NOT that detailed, so cameras that aren't positioned right on the road get missed!
Without it ticked, you will get lots of false alarms from nearby roads.
I have never seen any precise details published about the distance and acceptance angle that the TT uses (it often seems variable to me!) However THIS site's database is constantly adjusted so any cameras that might be missed with "warn only when on route" ticked are repositioned (to the centre of the carriageway). |
