|
|
Hi,
I just got a 660 AFTER speaking to Garmin who confirmed that I did NOT need the unit plugged into the 12v DC to get the traffic to work, HOWEVER - on opening the box, I see an ariel on the power lead!
I have turned on the unit and it says to plug in the traffic receiver.
I am NOT impressed as I CANNOT have the unit plugged in while in my vehicle.
Garmin told me on the phone that the traffic would work while on battery - I also go from car to car and don't want to have to take all the cables each and every time.
Can anyone else confirm that I HAVE to have the traffic unit plugged in?
If so, I will be sending the unit back and claiming a refund for the postage from Garmin as they mis-advised me!
Thanks,
Chris. |

chris, i'm pretty sure that all sat nav's have to have an external ariel plugged in and also the tmc wont work without direct 12 volt input... _________________ *************************** |

The 660 needs to have the cable plugged into the Nuvi to receive traffic, but unlike previous Nuvi (3x0 units), you DO NOT need to have the other end plugged in - ie the 660 will receive traffic whilst on battery power (with the antenna plugged in).
So, strictly, Garmin did not mis-advise you - they confirmed the unit does not need to be plugged into the 12v socket to work (which is correct). |

I can confirm that the C510D does not have to be plugged in to 12V for traffic receiver to be on, just plugged into C510D itself. However, TMC does not work very well on these units. Basically, the GTM21 unit is not sensitive enough to work unless you can almost see the transmitter! |
