Garmin i3 POI update problem

Updating my Garmin i3 POI caused the unit to crash and it will not recover even on a factory RESET. It looks like this is a common problem as I reviewed some of the postings by people with a similar problem last year. I ignored the warning to backup my Transflash card as I don't have a suitable reader. I have downloaded POI updates to this unit before without a problem, but now it has killed the unit completely. Is there a way of recovering this unit, or do I have to buy a new transflash card or a new GPS?

Ah - just realise you can do 1 or2 on that page. I initally read it that you had to do 1 then 2. Try option 2 as it won't cost.
