Just wondered if anyone else misses the waterways like me now that i'm using a western europe map v6.52. Was ok using a GB map + major roads of Europe.
Being a fisherman this was a great help to locate places to park near rivers/canals and also some postcodes will actually put you on the wrong side of a waterway sometimes, but now not being able to see any waterways (apart from the odd lake here and there) seems a bad idea as these can be a major landmark when trying to find a location. |

Can't help with the missing waterways but this site may be helpful to you.
CLICK HERE Type fishing, in the search box or look down the list for angling.
Download the convertor file. Drag the Angling file on top of the convertor file and youo'll have loads of POI's.
The missing waterways in Kent is because we've had a drought. _________________ Formerly known as Lost_Property

You might be better with the Rivers and Inland Waterways POI _________________ Regards

but POI's won't show a full length of a river and contours will it.
You know how it shows a railway line, so if you cross it you know its going to be a bridge, tunnel or a level crossing (or a 45 degree 15 foot ramp travelling at around 50 mph should do it) |

True, but surely better to use the POI's than have nothing. Or wait to see if the waterways etc appear on the next map release. _________________ Formerly known as Lost_Property

looks like the future map release is the answer.
But i suppose at the end of the day its road software so i will settle for more upto date roadways than rivers anyday (although it takes quite a few years for these to change route unless British Waterways chop down trees and straighten bends - which floods houses on flood planes and the people cant get no insurance)
I'm going on a bit aint I.
Ha Ha
The map also treats the M48 near Chepstow as a non toll road but it does show the river there suppose it has to when its that wide (Severn Toll) |

As a kayaker I find the river/lake positions essential. Most of my destinations are to positions in the middle of nowhere. Sometimes to find a location I have to use google earth and then try to work out where on the TomTom map it relates to. I then set a POI for the location for future use. There are also utilities that will convert an OS grid reference to lat/long. |

Can you keep to the middle of the river please Jeff as i trot my float down the inside
I still cant see how a river can be shown as a POI either.
Its like trying to do the same with a motorway- it just cant work |

I have just upgraded from TomTom Navigator 5 to TT6 on my Dell Axim X51v.
I went for the "UK and IE plus major roads of WE" v660.1219 map, this definitely has waterways, canals, etc. |

I assume to fit the Western Europe map on to a 1gb card, details like rivers, minor roads and loads of POIs had to go.
As an example my golf club (Banbury) doesn't even have a POI on the Western Europe map and the country lane to the clubhouse isn't shown nor are the rivers and canal that surround the course.
Whereas on the GB map there is a POI, the country lane and the waterways.
Both maps tested are V6. |

Hi, I can also confirm what Derek500 reports, there are differences in the detail between the Western Europe map and the country maps. I've noticed this in particular with some of the forest tracks round where I stay in Germany. These are marked on the Germany Country map, but not on the combined Western Europe map.
Cheers for now. _________________ HP iPaq h5550 ROM 1.10.10 ENG
