buy a garmin now or wait??

i have a garmin i3 qnd im looking to buy another garmin of some sort for my better half.

the thing is i think i read some where that a new map will be released in january. but i cant find where i saw it now some where on the garmin website.

would i be better waiting until after the release date to buy one so i can have the new software.

hope this makes sence.

It was actually released in Sept 06, but only for limited units - eg the Nuvi 610T and 660 have always shipped with the new v9 maps, but most of the other units are still available on the old v8 maps.

Technically, once Garmin actually announce it, they will offer anyone who buys a new unit after their release date a free upgrade - but don't bank on this being available (until announced you are gambling with the exact release date Garmin set). However, I believe Garmin are sending out emails saying it was Sept 06.
