Just upgraded the OS on my Tomtom Go (the original model) from v5.x to v6.250 (I think) using the tomtom home software. It seems to have upgraded successfully as I can connect to my device using the tomtom home software and reconfigure it.

However...

Once I disconnect from my PC (usng USB) my device keeps re-booting. I've read other threads with the same problem, but mine must have rebooted 20 times already and shows no sign of working...yet!

I can restore the v5.x OS, but I would really like to get the v6.x working.

Any ideas? Confused

Rgds

We don't know why, but this seems a 'feature' of 6.520. I've never heard of it cycling that many times though.8O

Have you tried a 10 sec pin-in-the-hole Reset?

Another option is to Unzip the CAB File and manually copy the Files to the GO. The File Name is navcore_652_7690.go-rider-one.cab

The Files you need to Copy are install.bif, suspend.bmp, system, ttsystem, data.chk and libaec.so

Just copy them to the Root of the SD Card. Make sure that you have at least 2MB of Free Memory on the SD Card.

Plenty of free space let on the SD card (it's a 1GB Sandisk). 8)

I'll try the 10 sec pin-in-the-hole reset now...:x

The patented "10 sec pin-in-the-hole" reset didn't work. :x

It's very strange that the clock shows 00:00 too...

Most frustrating Evil or Very Mad

Any further help would be gratefully received Confused

The next step is to try the manual install.

Richard - how do I get the CAB file without upgrading my tomtom?

Here's what I've done so far:
1. Backed up my v5.x system - this system works fine.
2. Upgraded to v6.x system using the Tomtom Home software.
3. Had major problems with my system rebooting, so...
4. Copied the 6 files (identified by Richard - Oldboy) from the v6.x system installed on my tomtom go to another folder on my computer.
5. Restored my tomtom go to the v5.x system using the tomtom home software.
6. Renamed the v5.x versions of the six files identified to *.old.
7. Copied the v6.x versions of six files from my computer into the root of my tomtom go.
8. My manually upgraded tomtom go continually reboots (same symptoms as idntified in step 3)!

Bl**dy frustrating! Evil or Very Mad

Maybe to install the files manually, I have to unzip the CAB file directly rather than copy from an installed v6.x system? If so, how do I get a copy of the CAB file without installing it onto my tomtom go?

Any further help would be greatly received!

Thx in advance
Andy

It seems to require the cycling re-boots to satisfy some need. After that it's OK and starts normally.

It will tend to do it every time (it seems) that you do a Reset, which it does after you've connected to the PC.Sad

I think someone has shot someone's own foot with this one.;)

I've finally managed to resolve my problems (with the help of Tomtom support) by:

1. Manually copy all data from the SD card to a PC using USB.
2. Reformat the SD card.
3. Install v5.440 of the OS application using the following link:
http://www.tomtom.com/1750
4. Switch on the device make sure it runs up OK. As it doesn't have a map installed, it will prompt you - ignore and switch off device.
5. Connect the device to your PC and switch on.
7. Using the TomTom Home client software install v6.520 of the OS only.
8. Disconnect the TomTom home client (using the "my device" button), close the home client application, switch off the device, and disconnect it from the PC.
9. Switch on the device make sure it runs up OK. As it doesn't have a map installed it will prompt you for it again - ignore and switch off device.
10. Connect the device to your PC and switch back on.
11. Close the tomtom home software (if it finds your device).
12. Using Windows Explorer, copy the "Zip, Voices & Great Britain Map" folders from the PC (in step 1) to the upgraded tomtom (will be seen as a removable disk).
14. Switch off TomTom unit and disconnect from PC.
15. Switch on the device make sure it runs up OK. It will now find the map and favourites and run normally (these are stored in the map folder).

What a pain!

I finally have a TomTom Classic working with v6.520 of the application. If nothing else, at least this allows me to install more POI's!

Hope this helps someone else in the future...

Regards
Andy
