Maps sizes

What is the size of a map. I about to buy a gps and wont have to many maps on it and the one im looking at in only 1mb. If i got hiking of or something i could always be near a computer before i go.

please be more specific if you are talking about street navigation or topographical maps, what country you live in etc.

USA and like trail map or something like that. And whats the diff from map and poi.
