I now use 2GB SDs so that I can keep both USA and Europe in the device at the same time, but you may need less capacity.

Usual suggestions here are...
1 ) "High speed" (though how that translates into exact numbers, I'm not sure... x12 rings a bell).
2 ) Reputable "name" brand, rather than the cheapest you can find. |

I've just bought a 2gb Datawrite card from Amazon for £17.70 including delivery. It works at least as well as the Tomtom card on my 510. |

In principle, yes. But as you haven't told us how many maps you intend to install it is not possible to say with certainty that 1GB will be sufficient.

buy a 512 that will do and so will pretty much any make of sd card..
they come cheaper off the internet than your local PCworld.. 7 0r 8 quid plus postage i would say..
the new euro map comes on a 1 gig card for reference.. that has the full seven euro maps on it.. if u only want GB and france a 512 will do.. the original GB only map needs a 128 card.. GB plus major roads of europe needs a 256 card..
