A friend of mine has just re-installed TTN2 and CheckPOInt 2.0.2 after a hard reset and is having problems getting it to start up. I've guided him through setting up CheckPOInt so that TTN starts and shutdowns at the same time but all he keeps getting is the Tomtom legal splash screen. It then doesn't do anything. Every time he soft resets and tries to start it again the same thing happens, just the warning/legal screen that you have to press 'I Agree' to in order to start Navigator.

Any ideas?

Two thoughts come to mind.

Firstly - uninstall CheckPOInt - try to get Navigator to go on its own.

Secondly, I'm pretty sure that you can't start out installing an upgrade copy of Navigator - you have to start with the copy from your CD, no matter how old it is or how quickly you uninstall it to install version 2.24.


When I upgraded my iPAQ to Pocket PC 2003 I had to start out installing the version on my CD (which is pretty old - 2.0something). I started it once, exited, uninstalled, and installed version 2.24.

He's on 2.24 and the 2.07 driver set plus he hasn't installed an upgrade copy, he has installed from the CD and upgraded manually.

I'll get him to uninstall CheckPOInt and see if TT plays on it's own...

I'm unclear from what you write whether he started the Navigator application installed from CD before installing any upgrades. It may be that you have to start the application installed from CD once before you can uninstall and upgrade.

It doesn't matter what version of the GPS driver you install to start with - it's the Navigator application that's activated (the activation actually relates to the map sets that can be used).

Idea if you are using a storage card for maps it may also be worthwhile removing this. Instead, install a small sectional map into memory and see if this has any bearing on startup. if it does then either the storage card, mapdata or POI data is corrupted.

Thanks guys. He's going to try and re-install the map data onto his storage card to see if that helps. If not he'll do a HR and re-install everything again making sure he confirms each part is working before doing any patches etc.

I'll let you all know how it goes...
