|
|
My new GO510 comes with GB and the Major Roads of Europe (MRE) map.
When I used the old TTN5 version on my PDA I could install any specific map from CD as the MRE map gets you from A to B but with limited 'off route' details.
Before I'd just pop the appropriate CD into my PC and it would install my chosen map as an extra folder on my PDA's card.
If I were to but a specific country map (say France for instance) on SD card from TomTom, how do I install it on my original TTGO SD card?
Sorry if this sounds alimentary but I' trying to get my head around how TTGO works as compared to TTN.
Many thanks

You can install as many maps as you can fit on your SD card, and then switch between them on your Go.
Unfortunately TomTom tend to sell the units with the smallest card they can get away with; so what many people do is to buy a larger card and copy their original onto that for day to day use, thus keeping their original card as a backup.
Once you've done that you could buy the download version of any new maps you want, which would be both quicker and cheaper.
Alternatively, the low tech solution is just to buy the new map on SD card and swap cards at the border (or you could always buy the single all Europe map from TT on one SD card instead).
Hope that helps... |

Finally... If you DO end up going the new map on SD card route, the process for copying from one SD card to another depends on what computer hardware you have.
If you have a card reader you could simply copy and paste between the new card, (put in the reader) and your "working" card in your Go (connected up by the USB cable).
If you only have the Go, you have to put the new map card into the Go, copy it to somewhere on your harddisk, then swap back to your normal card and paste back onto that one. |

Thanks for the thorough reply Andy.
I think the download route sounds like a plan and I could copy the folder to the newly installed 1GB SD card.
Thank you for your reply

I decided to bite the bullet and download some maps from Tom Tom's web site. I only really wanted France, Belgium and Germany but those three maps were dearer to buy than the Whole of Western Europe maps, so that's what I bought and downloaded.
However, it downloaded the outdated version 6.32 PLUS maps not the latest 6.50 that I was expecting.
I now have a GB and Major Roads of Europe map ver 6.50 which came with my shiny GO510 yesterday and the ones I've just bought are out of date version 6.32.
I find it a bit rich that the internet is currently flooded with cracked versions of the 6.50 maps when people who legitimately buy them get palmed off with out of date stuff
I think I'll have to have a word with Mr Tom Tom. |

I'm pretty sure because TT are moving away from country Plus maps (AFAIK they don't sell the individual country Plus maps any more) the most up to date will be the seamless v650 rather than the "old/obsolete" v6.32 country Plus maps. |
