Question about Miomap

About to get a P550 with Miomap. It says it comes with UK on a 512mb SD card and Europe on DVD. Is there any reason why I can't copy the content of the SD card onto a larger card so that I can then add other maps or mp3s etc onto the same card? I have been reading something about the maps being locked to the card but that doesn't make a lot of sense to me.
