I'm using Copilot 6.0.1.68 with a T-Mobile MDA Vario and the supplied bluetooth GPS. On a couple of occaisions recently, the GPS positioning has gone haywire, saying that I've travelling at 70 mph across a random bit of countryside 50 miles away. Re-pairing the GPS, or restarting CP6 doesn't fix it, but rebooting the phone and GPS does.
Has anyone else seen the same thing? |

Spooky. Only yesterday travelling home for about 15 miles on the A1 near Peterborough I had exactly the same thing (but on a Mio168 PDA). It suddenly indicated I was some miles to the right of the A1 going across fields with all sorts of odd commands coming up, yet it showed "all greens" for the number of Satellites. It only corrected once I'd slowed down for an exit and made a signifcant change of direction.
This is the second time this has happened, the last time I had to soft reset the PDA to get things working again. |

Probably the US military 'adjusting' the GPS satellite accuracy while they executed some dodgy mission. Did anybody notice any passenger jets landing in their back garden during this period? _________________ Ian

I had the same thing about this time of year in 2005 - Both TomTom and CoPilot showed me about 200 yards to the right of my true position for the last 45 minutes of my journey home.
This is a time of year when the E layer in the ionosphere does some strange things, causing very anomolous radio propagation in the UHF and VHF bands. Radio amateurs operating at these wavelengths experience communication over ranges of 2-3000 miles instead of the usual line-of-sight.
As my own experience in 2005 was subsequently reported as a day of very high sporadic E activity, I wonder if that was the situation with you yesterday. It will be a little while before the radio mags will be reporting unusual propagation.

It sounds like its not just the hardware then as I was 5 miles from Peterborough the last time it happened.
