Does anyone else get this, when the unit is in use on warm days it occasionally says 'charging disabled, battery over heating' or something.

It seems to be when the sun is on the unit and it does get quite warm. And it only happens then so I don't think it's a real problem with the unit.

I have a goose neck mount on the screen and everything is pretty dark colours.

I was thinking about making a 'heat shield' from white card to slip on the back of the mount but I'm concerned about reflection.

Any thoughts?

You could try using a vent mount. Then on warm days you can use the air from the vent to keep it cool.

Seconded. Over here this is sometimes the only method to get the unit back to life after it has (inadvertedly) been baked in the sun for an hour 8O

Dang, Well at least I know it's not just me.

I like the screen mount as it keeps the unit visible so I don't need to look too far from the road to see it (it's just below the bottom of the screen now that I have it mounted in landscape)

I tried a piece of white card but that didn't work at all. I have a look around for some good vent mounts and try one.

Thanks

Depending on what type of car you have some of the Brodit Pro clips hook over the centre vents, locating on the top and bottom of the vent surround. This leaves the vent in full use, thats how one of mine fits on a Rover 600. About £15.00 for a pro clip and is much more rigid than using the vent.
