I note the last FAQ states new i3 no longer has a transflash card. Is this correct? _________________ i3 2.70(went to 2.82,3.0,3.1 but downgraded) with V8 map on microSD card

A) Yes the data can be backed up to an alternative memory card (transflash)

It will work as a backup. You can't use the backup card in the i3 but if you corrupt your orginal card you can restore it from the backup card. But there is realy no point going the expense of an additional transflash card, you can back it up to your hard drive! _________________ i3 2.70(went to 2.82,3.0,3.1 but downgraded) with V8 map on microSD card

I have it on good authority that it is possible, an acquaintance of mine has two i3's, one had version 7 maps the other version 8. He managed to duplicate the version 8 on to another transflash card. This did require a techie mate with some sort of hack though. _________________ Chas

I know that, but the FAQ states no card at all, maps are stored onboard on latest unit? _________________ i3 2.70(went to 2.82,3.0,3.1 but downgraded) with V8 map on microSD card

transflash is a trade name of sandisk for micro sd.
garmin site still says you get a transflash card with the maps on... strange...
i like this one:
Q) Do I have to accept the route specified? For instance there are two possible routes to a location I travel to in Scotland, with very little to choose between the two. However, I prefer one route over the other - can I tell the unit to go via a particular road and thus force it to provide my route of preference? - Nicola
A) The unit determines the route as the best option
maybe as an afterthought the maplin staff should have added something like "and if you dare to take a different route the unit will self destruct"
