GPS Time Error

I hadn't used my Fortuna Clip-On in a couple of months (it has worked flawlessly) and this past weekend I cranked it up and had a strange experience.....the NEMA data shows the date as December 25, 2025. I noticed because I have my PDA time and date sync to the satellite constellation.

I checked NEMA strings a couple of times over the weekend and I checked them today and it is still saying 2025!

Any ideas?

Yes, that is a bug of some of the SiRF chipsets. The GPS week number has rolled over recently, and not all chips handle that gracefully.

You can try a factory reset and see if it catches the right week number after that. If not you'll have to live with the issue.

I emailed Fortuna's support and they confirmed that it is a problem and they sent me a tool and a file to reflash the unit.

However, I'm having some problems with the procedure (everything works fine and just like the instructions say until the patch file fails to apply at the very end). I suspect there is an error in the flash file and it is being rejected as invalid.

I love the fact it takes a whole day to detail my woes and get a response since they are in Taiwan and I am in Texas. However, I must admit that they are pretty responsive! As good or better service than I get from many manufacturers.
