Hi, my last pda was a palm III which I think shows my age... I've been out of the market since then and now I want something newer and there are just so many choices! I mean there are so many different forums here I didn't even know where to ask the question!
Basically, I'm looking for a PDA, but with a GPS add-on so I can have it in the car giving me directions.
I've been trawling around the web for a while, but like I said there's just so many different choices and options - I just need to round it down to a few options so I can focus on those...
So, can someone let me know which are the best GPS systems, best PDAs, and any good combo deals around right now? I'm looking to pay upto £300 (ex vat) maximum, so the best that I can get for that...
Thanks! :D |

I think this is the more obvious place to put your post, so I've deleted the identical one you put in the Beginners' Lounge. _________________ Tim |

You will find there are as many "best systems" as there are members of this forum. We all use our systems slightly differently and like and dislike parts of it.
I would go for a Pocket PC rather than Palm system for the PDA simply because there are more apps that are designed specifically for that systems. Some of the more popular (like Tom Tom) have been amended to suit the palm system but there seem to be more problems (per user) with that than with the Pocket PC.
Also Palm does not appear to support multiple BT connections at the same time, so you can't talk to your PT receiver and some other thing at the same time. Not important to many people but will be if you wanted to use TT traffic with your BT mobile phone because it won't work at the same time as your sat nav receiver. Having said all that I bet there will be a howl of protest from Palm users who say that it is the best thing since sliced bread and if it does what they want reliabily then it probably is!
Personaly I am happy with what I think is probably the market leading software, Tom Tom.
So look for a Pocket PC based PDA with bundled TT5 and a good Sirf 3 BT receiver. May be a little tight on £300 to get alot of choice but they are out there. then you will need to buy a good mount (recomend Brodit) and fixing to the car - probably another £25 to £50. _________________ Peter
