Adjusting Map Scale as a setting

I know you can can change the scale by pressing the negative box or positive box but it soun settles back down to the original scale/zoom. Can you select a scale as default?

I would like to see a little more of the roads ahead when Im driving.

No, you can't. It will always go back to it's default zoom.
