The Americans installed it for their own purposes and saw no need to charge for it.
It will last for as long as they choose to make it last for. However with the European system launching now that will be a very long time.
If you are asking because you are worried that if you buy a device they will then start charging, don't worry, they won't. |

When they do decide to charge for the use of GPS you might find that the manufacturer pays for this and just increases the cost of buying the GPS equipment. That is one way that they could charge for it, might not be the way it goes.

If the UK goverment gets their way anyone using UK roads will pay for it (the European system I presume) along with their road tax, because we will all have to have GPS hardware on our vehicles to calculate which roads we use, distance travelled and I suspect speed.
Any thoughts?  |
