I'm a complete novice, having recently acquired TTN5 running on a Palm TX. The GB map provided doesn't cover Dublin or the main roads of Rep. of Ireland, although the GB map shown for purchase/download from TomTom states that these are included.
I spend a lot of time on business in Dublin and would like a map, but it is not listed by TomTom under their City Maps. I don't really want to pay for a completely new GB map, so is there any other option for a map of Dublin?

Ireland (The Republic of) is not covered on TTN5...

Northern Ireland is at best patchy according to an Northern Irish friend of mine.

Thanks Simon. That's my understanding too, but I believe Dublin City is fairly well mapped ...... if only I could find a map!

Teleatlas do map Dublin, just look at google maps.

It might be that it's included on the GB Plus map, can you have a look at that?

Many SatNav systems lump Great Britain, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland together in one "UK and Ireleand" map set, TomTom seem to be an exception to this.

None of the 32 counties in Ireland are part of Great Britain so strictly speaking, TomTom are within their rights not to include these areas in their "GB2 maps.

Have a look for a system which uses Navteq maps which have better Ireland coverage. Dublin and Belfast have been fully mapped for years but it is only recently that the major roads in the republic were fully mapped.

City coverage is strictly limited in the South, Dublin, Waterford, Limerick and a few other cities are mapped by Navteq but not much else. Navteq have recently announced that hey have full coverage of NI but I don't know how long it will be before this makes it into any sat nav system.

Good luck!

Great Britain is the island made up of England, Scotland, and Wales, so to expect any part of Ireland (Northern or Republic) on a GB map seems to me to be a bit silly.

However, if you look at the TomTom map purchase and download page you'll find

Quote:
Detailed regional map of Great Britain connected to the Western European major road network.
Includes Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Also includes Dublin and the major roads of the Republic of Ireland. Does not cover the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man or any other overseas territories.

So I think Magoo has a legitimate complaint here.

(Incidentally, TomTom doesn't specifically say that England is included. Isn't that a little strange ?)

Of course, it could be that the map in Magoo's TTN5 is older and different from the one now available for purchase and download.

On the TTN5 page where the maps are described, Northern Ireland is coloured, even though it isn't part of GB, but not the Republic.

TomTom5 maps are teleatlas maps. You can't use anything else.

I'm well aware of the geographical parameters of Great Britain. However, when researching GPS systems prior to purchase, I read the quote from the TomTom website, which said that Dublin etc were included. I then bought Navigator 5 with GB map, but found that it was limited to mainland GB. Maybe I was "a bit silly" to trust the TT website. Can anyone tell me how to use a Tele Atlas map, from Google Maps, with TomTom ???

That's an easy one - you can't - you have to use a tomtom build of the tele atlas data..
