Hi,

My second GPS unit should arrive today (another BT-77). I've got one permanently hard wired into my car, and intend to use the other one in my wife's car (or if I'm going on a road trip with a friend). So, obviously, I'm not going to try and use them both at the same time.

I'm thinking that my best bet will be to pair both devices, and configure them to be on different "Outgoing Ports" - possibly COM0 and COM4, and then switch the com port in TomTom Navigator depending upon which device I'm using.

I think this should work ok, as long as I don't have any pairing issues (it seems that if I "mess" with my BlueTooth config, then I tend to break the pairing of one or more devices).

Another option would be to simply configure the Outgoing Port that TomTom expects to use to the device I want to use, but I'm assuming that the new BT-77 is going to show up as "BT GPS" too, and so it could get confusing as to which one is which, and I don't know whether this is enough of a change to start screwing up my BlueTooth settings.

I don't think the WM5 GPS management tool helps in this instance, since that allows multiple programs access to the GPS, rather than access to multiple GPS units.

Has anybody got any thoughts/ideas? My ideal would be for TomTom to just use whichever GPS unit I happen to be in range with, but I think I'm going to have to have some manual intervention in there somewhere...

Cheers,

Steve.

Steve, this utility will allow BOTH options to work, either single GPS feeding multiple programs or two GPS units feeding seperate programs, I did this a while ago when messing around with the Exec. If you feel you might get confused between the two devices how about colour coding them (coloured insulation tape on the bottom of the unit) - Mike

I won't confuse the two units physically, I was talking within the BlueTooth manager - they will both (presumably) be called "BT GPS", so I'm not sure how I would distinguish between the two.

Not sure how the GPS utility will help me out though - without it, I can make the tow GPS units reference different COM ports, but I can't make them reference the SAME port, which is what TomTom would expect to be the case if I'm to set it up without having to make any manual config changes as I move from one GPS unit to the other.

Cheers,

Steve.
