Hi all
Anyone managed to get a 5450 working on GPRS through a 6310i? I have managed to pair the devices, I can get a normal (freeserve style) data connection onto the internet ok but GPRS just won;t work (although I am subscribed to it on Orange)
If anyone could throw any light on this I would appreciate it
Thanks

I have managed successfully with that combination and O2 network. If you go to the HP forums there is information there from a UK based person explaining how to do this.
Basically it points to this link http://www.rittman.net/ipaq_6310i_gprs.htm I have had a quick browse and the details there look right. From what I can see it is a good tutorial.

HI Mike
Thanks for the reply, I finally managed to get it working last night after about 5 hours of looking around and trying different things, the only area that was missing was the APN detail for Orange (even Orange customer services didn't metion this!)
The tutorial is excellent, I found this on the orange site which helped me and a friend of mine who wanted to connect a laptop up to his 6310i.
Orange GPRS/Bluetooth Configuration Site
Worth a look if anyone else is struggling with this.
Thanks again.

How much does your connection cost Locktight, if you don't mind me asking? I priced it up on Orange's website and I think a new 6310i plus the cheapest call package plus 15MB GPRS was about £40 a month. Does that sound right to you? |

That sounds a bit expensive.
If you go for O2 you can pick up the excelent Ericsson 610 or the 6310i for nothing with a O2 100 minute tarif (make sure you get the online one) for £20 per month. Then the data package is about 2.85 a Mb which could work out much cheaper if you are not going to use too much. _________________ Mike Barrett |

@Russgunn
Your probably right, the company I work for pays for it so I don't really take much note of what it cost's on Orange? I will have a look at the latest bill when I get into work to see what it costs.
I think MikeB is right about O2 being the cheapest, at work we run about 20 mobiles and most of them are on an equivalent O2 Tarrif (although we connect via Orange) as a business customer Orange will match any tarif that others provide, not sure about personel contracts though?
@fysmd
If you follow the instructions for the Orange system above, on your Ipaq in the "Extra dial-string modem commands" if you insert the following;
+cgdcont=1,"IP","APN"
Replace the APN with the Vodaphone GPRS APN (Someone might post it here but if not ring Vodaphone to ask them) and it should work.
Best regards.

The Vodafone Internet GPRS APN is "internet".
