I downloaded the exellent speed camera database from this site. I installed it easier than I thought.
However, I've notice that when Im driving my alert will go off yet the speed camera is on a completely different road (i.e a parallel road).
Is that normal?
It's not a huge problem cos I then refer to the visual map but it would be great if it warned me of speed cameras on the actual road that I am driving down.

This is because when you set up the warning sounds for your POIs you didn't set the "Warn only if POI is on route" which is the question asked after you set the warning distance... However, if you do set the "Warn only if POS is on route", TomTom doesn't always alert you properly if the camera is set back from the road a little for example... So it's best to keep it unchecked and put up with the warnings even though they may be on a different road! |

In other words, if the TomTom is switched on and you are driving without a route planned in the TT, then you won't get any warnings of cameras even if you drive past them.
Uncheck the option, and if a camera is detected within the chosen distance (even if it is on an adjacent road), you get a warning. |

Yes, the warning distance appears to be circular, so if it's set for 300yds it will pick up anything within a 300yd radius of your position at the time. That include cameras on parallel roads and ones facing the opposite way to travel. If you set for 'warn on route' it will only beep if you are driving on a pre-planned route.
I leave mine on without a route planned and then watch when the warning goes off to see where the camera/site is. |
