|
|
Got a £144 V8 2.6 FW unit from Woolies but reckon it could be a dud. Have read the Forum can't see this one. It came out of the box today 06 Jan
Symptoms
Unit always powers down after getting 2 bars of Sig strength. I have an etrex next to the i3 and theres no signal problem. Realise first lock takes a while but unit keeps powering down -
Tried Remedies
Contacted Garmin- suggested hard reset & 2.7 firmware
Done the reset, cannot do the firmware keep getting an error on both my laptop and PC with techi geek language which I have pasted over to Garmin so I reckon this could be a duff unit
So .... back to Woolies or send to Garmin or do you know of an overide to stop the power down coz I reckon it will probably be OK if it could get past the second Bar
Help!!! |

And by the way its the same effect on all power sources - batteries, 12V/USB cable . And on a side note, I checked the diagnostics and there were 4 shutdown error logs dated 03 Nov 05 - Is that normal ? |

Is your other unit next to the i3 all the time?
I had real problems when I moved my GPS snooper too close to the i3 - kept losing signal adn it thinks I was 50ft away from where i actually was. Didn't power down though. |

Took suspect unit back to Woolies this morning with no fuss at all with a straight swap - stood out in the garden for 10 mins - all working fine. New unit also has current firmware. And just another point of interest re the old one - the time was correctly set although I never had a fix so just a conspiracy theory - could have been a return after a mess around with the firmware or even an ex demo model??? |
