|
|
i want to add all the local golf courses i go to in the midlands. many of them are not on the golf course poi in tomtom 5.
when i go to the add poi section in the menu and it asks for the poi category, golf courses is not listed - it is however listed as an icon when planning a trip.
thanks in advance |

you cannot edit the built-in POI categories (nor can you edit the POIs in them). You will end up with two categories - "their"golf courses and "my"golf courses.
Sounds wrong? yes it is, but that's the current policy as imposed onto TomTom by TeleAtlas. No tampering with existing data, however bad it may be. _________________ Lutz

I suspected as much - what I want to do is slightly different though. Many of the built-in POI categories relate to things which are of no particular interest to me such as convention centres, zoos and car dealerships (and golf courses! )
All they do is clutter the list and make it difficult to find the categories I do want. Is there any way to remove them entirely? |

Excellent! That gets me most of the way there. The only problem I have now is that building a new poi.dat file will mean losing the information I did use from the official one. I've managed to find fairly comprehensive overlays for a lot of the stuff I use frequently but, oddly, can't find anything good for cash machines or car parks!
Does anyone know of a site that has the original built-in info as separate overlays (or something similar)? I've tried pocketgpsworld and poihandler but they both have much the same stuff as the tomtom site with very sparse POIs for what I need. Tomtomfree.com is better but doesn't have all the info I'm looking for and Google seems to have failed me on this occasion... |

Please do not ask for illegal stuff. It is not allowed to disassemble the built in POI data.
Having said that, www.licour.com _________________ Lutz

My apologies, I didn't realise I was asking for anything illegal! I thought it was perhaps unlikely the original overlays would have been released, that's why I added "or something similar".
Having said that, many thanks! :D |
