I'm a Yorkshire Lad Laughing

I get to London on business occasionally but I usually either take the train or fly - the thought of driving in London ................... 8O nope.

You can move up here if you like - just leave those cash machines down there Wink

Most of the bus lane cameras are on the buses and operated by the driver 8O

I'm going to have a look at this site and work out if the POI's are useful - up here they park up at the end of the bus lane in town and pull you over.

I don't know Gods country - lush and green............... don't know what you're missing Laughing

Sorry if I'm being slow... can you confirm you are saying that there are NO cameras on the buses themselves policing the bus lanes? It's just that the stickers on the buses say exactly that they do.

I'm normally very good at staying out of bus lanes, but round my way many of them are only in use at certain times of the day, and I am almost evangelical about making sure I use them outside these times. I hate seeing half the road empty, because everyone is keeping out of the bus lane "just in case".
I have been done once for an £80 fine when, on part of my route home from work, they sneakily changed the time it stopped being a bus lane from 18:30 to 19:30. They had changed the signs, (although it was only one number different in really small writing and hidden amongst different times for weekends etc) so I didn't have a leg to stand on. I know how you feel, Andy_P2002. So often I see a queue of traffic too scared to use a bus lane even though it's within the allowable times.

As for those non-Londoners here, we have bus lane cameras mounted on posts lterally every 500 yards. They are video cameras which can swivel and tilt when in use by an operator. There is no point having a POI database for them, they are EVERYWHERE. They are sometimes turned the other way to monitor intersections or bus stops too. I don't know if it is for general traffic monitoring or if they are used for enforcement of yellow box junctions too.

Some buses also carry cameras which record a video. A friend had the bus company trace one of his van drivers because the van driver cut in front of a bus causing it to brake sharply. A passenger fell over and was injured so they sued the bus company who used the video to trace the driver who cut in front. This is now the subject of an insurance claim against the driver. :x

please let me know if that works

Just tried downloading it from that site and it seems to work. I can't confirm for sure because I don't live anywhere near one. However, it shows a bus cam at each end of City Road near Shoreditch, which looks believable.

However, it's only got 75 entries, all but seven of which are in London, so I doubt it's very complete...

There should be at least 110 bus lane cameras according to TFL. 75% of buses should be fitted with them too. You can avoid the bus-mounted cameras by simply looking for the big red bus icon when using a Mk1 eyeball and not driving in a bus lane in front of them.

Cameras tend to be sited to catch you in the last 20 yards or so of a bus lane - since lanes only have to end 10 yards before a junction, thus causing a huge jam as traffic tries to cut in at the last moment. So feel free to drive the whole length of a bus lane but dip out during the last stretch. TFL idiots. Sorry, this angrys up my blood.
