Bought from Motorworld. Box looked like it had been opened. SD card was missing. Phoned Motorworld they very speedily sent me an SD card, which worked. Great!
Reigistered on the Garmin website and applied for my free V9 software. Arrived 2 weeks later. Successfully unlocked it, selected all UK maps for upload, sent to the device via USB.
Now the box says: Please load maps blah blah… All detail level gone. (Only major roads showing)
Did not back up SD card before I started (total madness!!)
Since tried again , and noticed message, ‘The following maps have not been unlocked for your GPS’
If I’d taken more time and read this message properly in the first place, I would not of attempted the upload!!!
I emailed Garmin 2 weeks ago, they have yet to reply.
The only thing I can think of is that the unit I received does not match the documentation I used when registering???
Can anyone help? (I have reset the machine, no help…) |

For anyone who's interested:
Garmin telephone support 10/10
They re-registered my unit with the correct serial number.
Emailed me the new unlock codes an hey presto everything is working fine..
All done in 10mins flat.

to the forums, rawhead. Glad you got your unit sorted.
Most people's experience of Garmin's Customer Support is the same as yours. An excellent service! _________________ Anita

Sorry Anita but as you have no doubt already picked up, I cannot agree with your assessment of Garmin Customer Support. I know that you do seem to have been fortunate (in the extreme!) with your dealings with them but that is not an experience shared by numerous other users of this forum.
On the strength of this, I don't think it's a fair assessment to say that 'most' people have been left with a favourable impression.
Please don't think I'm just nit picking. You never know Garmin might just be aware of this forum and I certainly don't think that they should get too complacent. |

I think you'll find far more people on this forum have posted to praise Garmin's customer support than to criticise it, so I don't agree that I have been fortunate (in the extreme).
I accept they've handled the distribution of the V9 DVDs very badly, but virtually all other aspects of their CS is reported as being excellent.
But I'm not going to get into an argument about it. _________________ Anita

I agree with Anita. Garmin CS via phone is first class. I had problems with unlocking code (V9 maps) and when I phoned CS, they sorted it out via new unlock code that worked. :P :P :P |

Be thankful you got v9 free. Many other satnav manufacturers would make you pay. I for one will be sticking with Garmin. _________________ Samsung Mega

I totally agree with Anita. Garmin CS is excellent. A lot of other companies CS departments could learn a lot from Garmin. |

So often we suffer bad customer service and we are very good at giving negative feedback. It is therefore a refreshing change to give some positive feedback. I can echo Anita's comments. Garmin, for me have been pretty much the model of customer service/support. :D
I'm planning on upgrading my Sat Nav later this year when v10 maps come along. Without doubt it will be from the Garmin range. _________________ -----------------------------------
