|
|
One of my main reasons for moving to TomTom is the ease with which custom POIs can be imported - with the aid of utilities so generously provided by Forum Team members including Richard Davies, aka "Oldie" (steady Richard, I'm over 55 myself!).
In TT3, it was a case of displaying the area around the present location, then setting the most convenient nearby address as the next destination.
I've just upgraded to TT5 and can't get it to display POIs in map mode (and possibly not at all as I have not driven past any yet). Could someone please advise? |

The Enable/Disable Function in Manage POI has the same action as Options | POI in Browse Map, with changing settings in one changes the other.
If you Enable too many POI you might find that the Map refresh rate slows down, as reported by a number of users.
You can still do a Navigate to .... | POI whether the POI's are Enabled or Disabled. It will show the nearest, working outwards.
If you are 'on a Route' you can use Find Alternative | Travel Via | POI | and check to see if any are on your route. _________________ Richard

Thanks, Alix and Oldie for your help. I had already made sure I ticked some POI categories, as mentioned by Alix, and restricted it to only a few (two) categories, as mentioned by Oldie. This, together with the fact that I had with TT3, suggests that there is a problem here. I appreciate the point about the nearest POIs being in the text list, but I do want to see all my nearby addresses on a map so that I can plan.
On top of the POI problem, I have now driven a couple of journeys, and found that my PDA (Dell Axim X50v) crashes every 20 miles or so. I'll have to scour the forum a bit more, but if anyone has any clues, I'll be really grateful. |

Thanks, Alix.
I have had no crashes with Copilot, on my X50v or X30 (although as you know I have many other troubles with that programme). I have also had no crashes with TT 3, which I have used only on the X50v.
Therefore, do you mean that Dells recurrently crash generally, or just with TT 5? Presumably there is no solution to it in sight?
I should just add that now I have driven with TT 5, I can report that the POIs do appear in Navigator mode. In other words, it is just in map mode that they don't appear. |

Sorry, Oldboy, for calling you Oldie earlier.
Could you or Alix possibly please tell me specifically, do you get POIs in TT 5 displayed in map mode, or, like me, in Navigator mode only?
Thanks again. |

That's OK.
I can get POI to show in map mode if I Enable them, as Alix said, but generally I don't unless I checking out one of my compiled POI groups. _________________ Richard

Alix and Oldboy
I really have been doing exactly as you suggest all along - after all, it is practically the same as in TT3. Unfortunately, I don't get the POIs in map mode while it is clear that you do get them.
Thanks again for your help. |

Alix
I owe you an apology. I have not been ticking to display POIs IN MAP MODE.
Any thoughts on whether the Dells crashing is something to do with TT 5? If it's insurmountable, I may as well uninstall and save the hassle.
My thanks again. |

I've installed 5.1 (although the display still reads 5.0). I'll check this and try a faster SD card.
Thanks. |

In the 'Show Version' menu screen it should say version 5.1. try a soft reset of your PDA.
The speed of the card may be totally irrelevant to the problem as it is the drivers in the PDA that determines the read/write speeds from/to the card.
The actual speed of the card in the PDA may/will be a lot less than the advertised speed of the card so the dufference between, say, a x10 speed card and x60 speed would be a zero increase in performance.

You may only achieve the advertised card speeds when it is attached to your PC in a dedicated card reader.
Formatting the card may make a difference.
