Hi All
First, great site - thank you.
I have scanned the forums, but have been unable to find answers to some questions and would appreciate some help.
1. which bluetooth receiver?
I use a Dell Axim X50V pda and am looking to get a bluetooth receiver. The primary use would be in car navigation - but I'd like to have the option of using the combo for some hiking. Having looked at your site, it seems that one of the Sirf Star III receivers would be best for the in car navigation - but does the lack of data logging mean that they are sub-optimal for hiking? I confess I don't know what data logging is. At the moment I use a basic garmin geko gps for outdoor stuff and value the fact that it records a trail of where one has been etc. Does the lack of datalogging mean that the Sirf Star III receivers/pocket pc combo will not record a trail Question If yes, which receiver do I need to replicate this function?
2. which routing software for use with Axim
Apologies for a somewhat specialist question. The Axim X50V has a high res VGA screen. Does anyone know whether any of the ppc routing software packages are/can be set to take advantage of a VGA screen resolution Question
Many thanks.
Chris

Welcome, For the two options you mention you are best off with two different software packages, I use TomTom 5,1 for the car nav and OS Memory Map for the walking, the problem in creating a trail (which the OS can do) is - it needs the PDA powered up and so you will typically get two to three hours with the bluetooth enabled.
I used to turn it on and off just to get a fix as and when required, now I can get around 10 hours with the external batt, before it starts to eat away at the internal charge.
TomTom is no use for walking as it will try to lock to roads, and often when walking in remote areas there would be nothing displayed, the OS gives you the same as a paper map, I hasten to add you should always have a paper map and compass when the going gets lousy and the PDA packs up (for whatever reason) the old system still has an input. Mike

Many thanks. Do the software packages you mention support VGA on the Axim?

Both are VGA compliant, and work great - you will need the TT5,1 as the earlier version causes problems on the VGA devices, MM is fine on VGA (it looks so much better on a decent screen) - Mike
