I've just ordered a GPS reciever (BT-338) but I'm a bit unsure which casing colour to choose?

I understand that a lot of people seem to think silver is beter since it will reflect the suns rays if the unit is on the dash? However I personally feel that silver would make the unit stand out more and its reflection in the windscreen would distract me?

Also since the unit is SiRF STAR III I should be able to just keep it in the glovebox shoudn't I?

Sorry if this sounds a really dumb question but I'm a newbie at gps stuff and I'd like to make the right decision? Confused

Any advice appreciated.

I prefer silver - exactly for the reason you mentioned (heat reflective)

Thanks for the reply lbendlin.

I must admit I'm a bit skeptical over all this heat issue, I mean really, how less hot is a silver casing going to get compared to a black one?

Also isn't a SiRF STAR III reciever capable of getting a reception inside buildings?

Unless like Lutz you're in Texas then the case colour is unlikely to make any difference in use.

I have a range of receivers all different colours and they all work fine come rain or shine. Even in the hot weather we've had occasionally this year they've survived.

Thanks for your advice Darren.

Given the choice then what would you choose?

I'd take whichever was in stock/cheapest or matched my car! My BT338 is a one off that came in chocolate brown!

I'd take a black one, it's less likely to attract the attention of thieves as it will match most of the plastic in your car (probably!)
