I am thinking of buying a Sirf Star III bluetooth receiver to replace my Fortuna clip on. The reason being that although it's OK for car navigation it is often useless for hiking. In one mode I have trouble geting a fix and in the other mode it doesn't report my position accurately.
The trouble is though, although I've searched extensively I cant find any info on whether a Sirf Star III receiver would be much of an improvement.
Has anybody used one outside the car? Does it maintain an accurate fix even under foliage cover?
I will be using it with MemoryMap.

All you need to do is switch off Static Navigation - then a SiRF III chipset is the best thing you can get for little money right now. They even grab a fix indoors, and have no trouble getting one under foliage. I'd say go for it!
