|

Hi guys i need some help urgently please.
I have just updated my mates old tom tom that was runing 4.21 to the current update. all seemed well until i turned it on, after it gave the "legal notice" it says "product has not been activated" and gives me the device code and asks me to visit ttcode.com to activate.
This is where it all comes unstuck as i dont have the product code - only the device code. So i need to know how to get the product code or how to roll it back to the older version.
At the moment it is useless and needless to say he will not be very pleased and will want to nick my new tom tom until his is fixed.... :x
Please can some1 help me?????? |

I assume that it's one of the original TTG's - now called a "Classic".
That would have come with a CD which contained a copy of the v4.xx software and GB map, and also Major Roads of Europe. The product code which you need for activation purposes is on the back of the CD sleeve - along with a prominent note saying "This code is important - don't lose it" or words to that effect. _________________ Roger

Me again!
I assume that you have over-written the original SD card with the new software? Is is fair to assume that you took the reasonable precaution of making a backup copy of the everything from the SD onto your computer's hard disk before over-writing it?
If so, and if you can't find the product code, re-format the card and copy the backup back onto it. If you haven't got a backup, you're somewhat stuffed.
In that case, your friend (or maybe ex-friend!) will need to contact TomTom and provide proof of purchase (original receipt etc.) in order to be given a new product code. _________________ Roger

I did say that you needed to have backed up everything on the card - for which you would need Windows Explorer or equivalent. The TomTom 'backup' function is a waste of space, and only backs up your personal settings rather than the software, maps, etc. A full backup is around 100 Mb. _________________ Roger
