I've added the new voices to speed cameras but - oddly and whatever I try - I cannot get the:

" mobile","mobile 50", "mobile 70" or" temp" entries to appear within "Warn when near POI" although all of these files are listed among the files on my card along with all the other Gatso and Mobile files.

And so I cannot allocate voices to them unless they magically appear.

Also, I do not understand how to make use of Categories. I thought I could put all the speed camera entries under, say, a category called "Speed Cameras" but gave up.

Any help at all would be very much appreciated and add to my pleasure in using the TomTom Go 300.

Have you downloaded some other Points of Interest? There is a max. of 27 of your own. If you add more you will see them in the GO window when connected to the PC, but the GO itself will only see the first 27.

You can't put .ov2 file into a sub-folder as TTG only searches the Map Folder. However if you do have more than 27 POI, you can combine some of them or use the Camera Type files which uses 5 POI categories.

Thanks, guys.

I will try to work out how many POIs I have. I have ticked boxes to 'display' cameras, McDonalds(!), leisure centres, petrol statiions ...

Do the 'displayed' items each count as one POI within the 27 limit?

The info on the site states that 15 voices can be assigned to speed cameras but I am only using 12 - hence the query about my inability to display and assign voices to Mobile50, Mobile70 and Temp.

I'm assuming, from what you say, that the Categories are pre-set in the TTG workings and that I cannot create my own new ones (and place POIs into these new ones).

I know my phraseology is naive but I'm a Bus Pass person enjoying all the new technology (I've just sent for a tiny MP3 player - just need to learn how to put music into it!)

Thanks again

The limit of 27 POI categories in v5.2 (40 in earlier versions) applies only to those which you have added - and are in addition to the built-in POIs. The one's you've added will each have a .ov2 file in the map folder - the built-in ones won't. Or you can count them on TTG itself by Change Preferences/Manage POI/Delete POI Category [but don't actually delete them!]. It will display a list of deletable categories - which is just the ones you've added, since you can't delete the built-in POIs.

When you go to the Warn when near POI menu, you get to select a warning sound, and can scroll through Bell1. . Bell3, Beep1 . . Beep5, Boing, Bugle, etc. - and hear each one by pressing the Test button. If you have installed a modified data.chk file with spoken warnings, you'll get those instead - but they'll still be labelled Bell1 etc. even though they're something different. You should have enough different ones to be able to assign an appropriate one to each zoned speed camera category. If not, post a list here of all the sounds you've actually got, and we'll try to work out what's gone wrong.

That really is helpful. Thanks.

I have downloaded your spoken warinings so that bells, etc. are replaced
by Gatso 30, etc.

So ... these are my own POI items and their associated spoken warning:

Gatso 20 - Gatso (Beep 1)
Gatso 30 - Gatso 30 (Beep 2)
Gatso 40 - Gatso 40 (Beep 3)
Gatso 50 - Gatso 50 (Beep 4)
Gatso 60 - Gatso 60 (Beep 5)
Gatso 70 - Gatso (Beep 1 again)
Mobile 30 - Mobile 30 (Bell 2)
Mobile 40 - Mobile 40 (Bell 3)
Mobile 60 - Mobile 60 (Bugle)
Redlight - Redlight (Cuckoo)
Specs - Specs (Polite 1)

I cannot get Mobile 50 or Mobile 70 to appear as a POI in "Warn when near POI" although they are present as items when I enter "Add POI" and they are enabled (ticked) in £Enable/Disable POI"

If they did appear I still have Bell 1, Boing, Cow, Polite 2 and Polite 3 available for use.

What I would like to achieve is a warning whenever a Speed Camera is on my route - preferably (because it's fun) with a warning indicating Gatso or Mobile and the speed restriction.

Your continuing help is appreciated.

Have you scrolled right down the list - to Amusement Park thro' Zoo to make sure they're not hidden down there somewhere?

If so, you may just have too many added POI categories. Have you made a list of all the added POI categories and/or counted them - using one of the methods described in my previous post? If so, how many are there?

Hello, Roger.

I have added 16 items POIs. I don't know whether or not you call them categories. This is what I have added to TTG 300:

Gatso 20/ 30/ 40/ 50/ 60/ 70
Mobile 30/ 40/ 50/ 60/ 70
Temp
Redlight
Specs
McDonalds

All but McDonalds (!) come from the pocketgpsworld speed camera download.

Although present as POIs, Mobile 50 and Mobile 70 do not appear amongst the POIs to which I can assign a spoken warning.

I'm baffled. as I know the files are on the SD card. I do like things to be right and I cannot see the logic here.

Thanks again.

Not sure of your problem, but you have missed off the gatso_tba and mobile_tba files, so the set is incomplete. These files show the known position of cameras which have not had the speed limit reported.

Hello again.

I've downloaded and added the tba files for gatso and mobile speed cameras.

As with Mobile50 and Mobile70 - they do not appear in the list of files to which I can assign a spoken warning. I'm not using all the avaiable warning sounds so this may remain a mystery.

Thanks

The number of sounds is irrelevant. You could assign the same sound to every PoI if you like!!

When connected to the computer, check the size of the data on the GO (properties?) and see if the card is too full.

When checking the PoIs, they ae listed by the ones that are enabled first and then the rest. Bring up the keyboard and type in "pocket" this should refine your list to just the cameras. The files you want may be hiding.

If you have the last 4 files missing, it may be a card size problem. Do they appear if you delete MacDonalds?

Although I'm getting great assistance I feel I'm becoming a nuisance. I don't think I'm stupid, though, because if I can assign spoken warnings to all the other speed cameras I must be doing something right!

Answering the questions:

Version shows memort 30mb RAM with 6.3mb free

I cannot see where to type in "pocket" nut typed it into the keypad for enable/disable POI. It made no difference.

Deleting McDonalds category made no difference.

The 'missing files' are listed on the SD card as POIs - they simply won't appear in the "Warning" listing where pocketgpsworld's new spoken warnings can be assigned.

When I loaded too many PoIs the "extras" appeared on the GO as I deleted others.

The memory issue is still a possibility. You quote the RAM. How much of the SD card is used up?

I getting at a loss here.... Have you downloaded the missing camera files again in case they were corrupted the first time? That shouldn't have happened twice though and you can't see the gatso/mobile files you put on later.

I know that people say it doesn't happen on a PC, but when you deleted the extra PoIs did you drag to the recycle bin - and also empty it? I believe it should empty on disconnection, but I use a Mac and it doesn't always do that, so the recycle bin/trash still takes up room on the card until you empty it.

Clutching at straws a bit, I'm afraid.

Success!!

Firstly, though ... I didn't realise there was a Recycle Bin on the SD card - I'm not sure that there is but I will look.

Now ... as suggested to me, I deleted the McDonalds file.
This made no difference.
And so I reloaded the McDonalds file.

All the 'missing' camera files magically reappeared but with the 'wrong' spoken warnings assigned to them.

So, of course, I re-assigned the 'correct' spoken warnings (i.e. Gatsso 30 " - Gatso 30" (Beep 2) .... and all seems well.

Everybody - thank you for such good, unexpected help. This is a good forum to be in ... the TomTomGo forum. Now I must find a way of navigating to it quickly - but without SatNav to do so!

Regards
