Nav 5 maps and Go

Am I right in thinking that the TTN5 maps would work with a TomTom Go 300?

In theory, TomTom Navigator 5 maps will work with a TomTom Go as long as the maps’ Product Code has not already been activated.

However the TomTom Go 300 already has the latest maps.

I was reading on another forum a post from a guy that claims his 'friend' extracted the map of arkansas in the usa and sent it to him for use with his GO.

My understanding of this whole product is that it simply doesn't work like that. he'd put the files on his SD card and it'd either not show up or still ask for activation. If it does work, surely tomtom need to go back to the drawing board to prevent things like this happening

I may be talking rubbish as I haven't even received my go yet but I like to have an understanding of how a product works.
