My 700 has just died, I get the tomtom "drums noise" on start up, then the tomtom black/red hands on screen, it hangs for a second or 2 then turns itself off Sad

got it from pcworld but they seem to be out of stock so looks like a refund rather than exchange.

im also in 2 minds - should i get another 700 or maybe a 500? ive not used the remote that comes with the 700, i find the screen easier and quicker for inputting so I wont be miss it on the 500

also im a bit concerned that I might outgrow the 2.5gb hard drive on the 700 - whereas the 500 can never be outgrown.

I see there are soon to be released 4gb SD cards, which means I get the whole of europe and whole of USA on one card and then room for other places as well

any thoughts on the above, would be great

cheers

Unless you use the handsfree phone, why not the 300? I think the only advantage in a 700 is the linked maps of Europe. If TomTom will do a card with that map on it.........

yep, use it as a BT handsfree also, if there is a full 4gb SD card in there, I would rather have the faster processor on the 500/700

cheers

just seen your message, but no I didnt try that, I just did the reset button without the AC

anyway, just got back from pcworld with another 700 so see how it goes

Ive looked at the proposed prices of the new 4gb sd cards and they are very nearly as much as a TTG 500! so might be better sticking with the 700

cheers

Because that was what someone wanted early on and it just stayed. It is also easier to hear that just the one word 'Gatso'.

I am not quite sure why you think you might grow out of the 700.

With the 2.5Gb drive you can have the whole of Western Europe, and the Whole of the US and still have 21Mb spare for POIs etc. Now maybe you might want to have Eastern Europe or Australia, or some of the Far East maps on there, but you cannot need them all at the same time so you can copy them on and off as required.

I think that the 700 will have a reasonable life with it's current sized drive. Eventually it could be replaced with a large CF card which are normally faster and cheaper than SD cards. My current understanding is that the 700 has an internal CF slot which the drive plugs into, but I havent been able to verify that yet. Maybe if Eldar brings the right toolkit to the GPS Meet...
