just purchased "Ipaq 3950 - 400MHz, need gps info

Hi all, i am completely new to all this gps stuff but have become intrested in last couple of weeks as i do a lot of driving.

What i need to know is whats the best software (gps) and what hardware will i be needing to use it for a driving aid.

Below is what comes with the purchase.

Excellent clear colourful screen
* Docking Cradle - USB and Serial port connection
* PSU for powering the docking station
* Navman GPS Receiver jacket
*128MB and 8MB Compact Flash memory Cards for map storage etc..
*Compact Flash WIFI card (11mbps)
*Sleeve with additional battery pack and a compact flash slot .

I am assuming i cannot use the naveman for in vehical positioning, so would it be worth trying to trade this for a plugin reciever.

You ought to be able to use the sleeve. If you don't have an athermic windscreen it won't be much of a problem and if you do, careful siting of the iPAQ should still see you alright.

I have successfully used said sleeve in all manner of vehicles including a panel van and my wife's Scenic.

As for software, get reading the reviews and see what's available. Then decide what your priorities are and list them. Finally match your list to each product and see which one measures up best.
