Recommendation for marine + land info US and Uk

I'm a first time GPS buyer looking for a good solution to my needs. I need street map and waterway info for the Atlantic coast of the US and the United Kingdom (and some sort of potential for Pacific info in the future). Tide times and general climate data are needed as well as the standard sorts of navigational aids. It is of course required that the unit also be waterproof.
I'm likely to be using a GPS for some time and would like to get a model with flexibility for memory. Any tips would be appreciated.
