Does anyone know where or how TomTom have obtained this information on their website as downloadable and chargeable content?...do you think they've used sites like this one to get their info which is free and open?? so you guys have done all the donkey work!!...and how come the UK is charged nearly 70 euros as opposed to Belgium/Netherlands nearly 40 euros for a yearly subscription, is that because we have more "Safety Cameras " than in Europe..what a rip off Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

Well, you don't have to buy it.

The free Pocket GPS World version does everything I want - when used in conjunction with spoken warnings.

That is thier perogative. If they have invested in a team to create this service they have to fund it somehow, as with all commercial ventures.

It is now down to them to sell that service, and prove it's worth to the users.

If they believe that the paid for service is better than the free service and can prove it then it will flourish and grow. If on the other hand the PocketGPSWorld.com service provides what the users want for nothing then it will flounder, simple commercial realities.

Given a choice, right now, what would you make?.....something thats free and proven or otherwise,i would have thought they would have provided this kind of thing anyway as standard(for nothing)...i also think they make enough off the maps and units sold! without this"extra" service..

It would be interesting if they stuck their necks out and promised to pay any fines caused by their update not including the camera. Laughing

Speed camera databases are less political in nature on mainland Europe. In the UK, publishing such data is seen as sticking two fingers up at the government to point out how futile etc etc.

In Europe they're just a way of saving some money... I have yet to find a complete free database of European safety cameras. I doubt they'll sell many UK subscriptions, but I could imagine they will in Europe.
