HI
looking for a Sat nav system and so far TTG 500 looks the favourite.

i have a question for you knowlegable people.
can you have ttg in map display mode, ie no route entered.
on my last vehice which had a factory fitted sat nav i could use this mode
to find car parks in towns that i knew how to get to.

Yes, there is a very useful "browse map" function available through the on-screen menu.

Bejay,

To add to Phil's note.

It can be left in "idle" mode with no route planned in which case it continues to track your position and display as you select in either two-D or three-D mode.

With the database of speed cameras loaded it will also give you the proximity warnings.

Regards,
Rich

Bejay,

I slightly misread your original question.

Richard's answer is closer to your question - when you connect your GO to it's cradle, and providing the cradle is powered (directly or via the ciggy lighter connector) your GO will auto switch on and be in what Richard calls idle mode.

This is what I run pretty well all the time. And, if you have POIs enabled when "off route" you will get speed camera warnings even when you are not on a route. Any POI categories you have enabled will also be visible on the map.

My answer is for when the GO is in the house and you want to plan a route to an unusual destination. For example, yesterday a colleague sent me directions to his house. Unfortunately he lives in the sticks and there is no house number. GO can find the road he lives on by I had to select "anywhere" for the precise location. However, using his written instructions I could then browse the GO map and follow the route - and work out exactly where he lives. You can tap the map to create a "waypoint" and then use that as a route destination, or as a favourite etc.

My GO is much more versatile than my wife's built in sat nav in her Toyota. OK, her screen is bigger (3 times bigger) and she has a CD player and radio built in, but for navigation and price, the GO wins hands down. (£400 vs £2000).
